Top Tips & Tricks

We are all in favor of an easier life, so let's share our best tips and ideas!

  • Earn Extra Green Points at Lowes Foods
Use your own bags for purchases - and not the plastic bags instore - and you'll get extra green points for future purchases. I've been doing it for a while now and you soon get into the habit f remembering to bring your own bags into the store. You can also buy reusable grocery bags inside if you don;t have some at home. You'll soon make your outlay back and more with just a few trips.
  • Keep Your Old Toothbrushes
They make great scrubbing brushes. e.g. for:
Toilets - just throw them away after cleaning
Around faucets - where it is tight to get regualr brushes
Grout - the fit perfectly in grout lines
  • Chrome Cleaner
Rubbing alcohol is great for chrome (and also glass) which is good to know since some common household products are not suitable for chrome.
  • Remove Scuff Marks on Walls
Toothpaste (paste not gel) can be used to remove crayon and other marks from walls. A little paste on a clean cloth will remove lots of scuffs with a gentle buffing. Of course, test an inconspicuous area first.
  • Peanut butter removes adhesive from glass and plastic
Remove as much of the sticker as possible by hand, thenspread some creamy style peanut butter on what's left. Leave for a few minutes - preferably 10 mins - and then gently scrape it away. Wipe the oily residue and job done!

  • Tea & Wood Floors
Tea contains tannic acid which is great for cleaning wood floors and for camouflaging small imperfections.
Roughly 2 tea bags in a quart of warm water will do the trick. Apply with a rag and then wipe it dry with another rag.

  • Furniture Polish
A great substitute to regular furniture polish is olive oil.
If you like to use environmentally friendly products - this is perfect.
    1/4 cup olive oil
    4 tablespoons distilled vinegar
    2 teaspoons lemon juice
Mix together - apply with a soft cloth - buff to desired shine.
  • New Use for Used Dryer Sheets
They make great dusters! Something about them makes the dust cling and they still smell great.
